Rep. Mercado Supports PNoy Stand on Anti-Corruption

MAASIN CITY --
President Benigno Aquino III has found an ally in Cong. Roger Mercado regarding the intense campaign to rid any form of corruption in government.

“I support his stand,” Cong. Mercado, who is in Manila, told PIA by phone this morning, apparently referring to the battlecry popularized by President Aquino declaring, in effect, that there will be no poor people if there are no corrupt people.

Asked what the lawmaker would suggest to the President as among the contents of his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 26, Cong. Mercado zeroed in on the topic about leadership by example.

The discussion on leadership by example must convey the message that the President will stand firm about his battlecry, and show this as real by his very own example, throughout the rest of his six-year term, said Cong. Mercado.

Once it will be institutionalized that the President has been putting the principle of walk the talk in actual practice, then everybody down the line will follow, he added.

The lasting, positive impact will be a professional citizenry, where every individual should work hard to be worthy of the salary he or she earns, and agencies of government will be working to uplift the lives of the people, especially the poor, Cong. Mercado also said.  (PIA-Southern Leyte)
