Surface Drainage

Based on DENR data, Southern Leyte has 93 rivers that serve as basin and drainage of excess water from the land to the sea. Eighteen (18) of these rivers are considered as major rivers.

The province has an inland lake called Lake Danao located in the mountains of San Juan and Anahawan.

Based on the PW4SP study conducted in December 1999 by Nippon Jogesuido Sekkei Co., LTD, revealed that there were 496 developed springs with an average discharge rate of 2 lps and 90 untapped springs with discharge rates ranging from 0.05 liters per second (lps) to 553.9 lps in the province.

With the implementation of PW3SP-ADB Assisted Project, a total of 54 untapped springs are utilized for potable water supply projects in the province as of 2004.
